What is Salt spray testing

2022-01-05

Salt spray testing is an environmental test that mainly uses artificial simulated salt spray environmental conditions created by salt spray test equipment to evaluate the corrosion resistance of products or metal materials. The salt spray testing standard is a clear and specific regulation for the salt spray test conditions, such as temperature, humidity, sodium chloride solution concentration and pH value, etc. In addition, it also puts forward technical requirements for the performance of the salt spray test chamber. The judgment methods of the salt spray testing results include rating judgment method, weighing judgment method, corrosive substance appearance judgment method, and corrosion data statistical analysis method. Salt spray test products are mainly some metal products, through testing to investigate the corrosion resistance of products.

1. Testing content

The salt spray testing simulates the environment of the ocean or the climate of salty and humid areas, and is used to evaluate the salt spray corrosion resistance of products, materials and their protective layers. There are two types of tests: salt spray testing and alternating salt spray testing. It is often used for quality assessment and failure verification under special conditions.

2. Types: Neutral Salt Spray Test (NSS), Acetate Salt Spray Test (ASS), Copper Acetic Acid Accelerated Salt Spray Test (CASS)

3. The technical indicators of the salt spray test include salt solution concentration, relative humidity, temperature, salt spray time, storage time, test period, fog collection, PH value.

5. Salt spray test reference standard: GB/T 2423.17, IEC60068-2-11, ISO4628-3, ASTM B117, JIS-Z2371, JIS-G3141, GJB 150.11A-2009, MIL-STD-810F, MIL-STD-883E, etc..
